Golf Fitness For Picture Perfect Par Posture
Functional posture makes a world of difference in your swinging action and lets you impart far more force into your ball strike. You like to hit it hard don’t ya?
Golf, just like all other sports, requires sound basics that are simple, like good posture. And in golf, there is nothing more important than good posture. Posture is crucially involved in every swing you make and every aspect of your swing.
From a side view, good posture is seen as your head balanced over your shoulders as though an imaginary line runs from your ear through your shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. From the front, your shoulders and hips should be level, head straight, knees facing straight ahead and ankles straight.
Static posture is fundamental to maintaining a consistent address position and supports the motion of your swing. Your body is the pendulum in the swing plane. How you address the ball sets up the swing plane and how you will strike the ball. Over 18 holes you may spend approximately 20-25 minutes addressing the ball. If you have less than optimal posture and poor stabilizer function, your address position will progressively worsen throughout the round.
Hmmm, is your game falling apart on the back nine?
Feeling fatigued?
Shots going astray?
Coming out of your swing?
Check your posture!
Most postural conditions do not occur overnight. Modern living plays havoc on our posture. We spend long hours sitting at desks working on the computer or a relaxed posture in the car. And we haven’t talked about how much time you spend playing at being a couch potato.
And then there is stress! Let’s not ignore the effects of stress. Like a vise tightening your shoulders and neck until you feel they might snap off.
So is it any surprise two of the most common problem areas in posture are slouching shoulders and having the back in a slumped or curved position?
For every inch the head tilts forward, it puts another 10 pounds of strain on the neck and shoulders. The deep postural muscles contain a large proportion of slow twitch muscle fibres. These fibres are capable of contracting for long periods without tiring. Poor posture demands the support of the fast twitch muscle fibres which tire quickly creating muscle fatigue and pain. Over time, excessive use of the fast twitch fibres leads to wasting of the slow twitch fibres causing a reduction in joint stability and poor mechanics.
Eventually, after repeating these actions day after day, the actions will override your natural mechanisms. The more you move in a poor way, the easier it beomes and the better you get at moving in an incorrect manner.
Simple fact! Repetition builds bad habits in posture as in anything else.
Soon the poor way feels right and the right posture seems wrong!
So as an unannounced and added bonus we have something for you.
By letting us fix your posture you will not only improve your golf game, but you will also stand tall off the course.
Poor posture can restrict body rotation. This can cause that dreaded tilt – instead of the turn of the shoulders and hips. This in turn can cause the even more dreaded reverse pivot – which is right up there with shank.
The Good News Is You Can Correct Posture
Yes, now you can correct posture!
How?
By strengthening the trapezium and the rhomboid muscles which are the muscles that support the neck and head. By stretching your pec muscles to let those shoulder muscles roll back you’ll be able to turn – instead of tilt!
You will also need to build your core and trunk strength to take the pressure off your lower back.
Now you can improve and maintain good posture throughout your golf swing, increase your swing power and hit the ball farther with Be Golf Fit, the revolutionary golf fitness course designed to help you put the ball in the hole in fewer strokes.
