MEMBER’S FAQ

Do I do the same workout every week:

No. Every two weeks you will receive an updated workout. Basically, 10 exercises will change every 10 weeks. We found that if we changed too few exercises people felt like the workout didn’t change at all. On the other hand, if we changed too many exercises people found it overwhelming. Some where in the 5 – 12 range seems to be best for people.

What are slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibers?

Our muscles are made up of bundles of individual muscle fibers. These fibers can be broken down into two main types: slow twitch and fast twitch. Slow twitch muscles are more efficient at using oxygen to generate more fuel and can go for a long time before they fatigue. Therefore, slow twitch fibers are great at helping golfers play a long day. Fast twitch fibers are better at generating short bursts of strength. Therefore, fast twitch fibers are great at hitting that long drive.

Why does the weight and pace change in week 5?

In weeks 1 – 4 the program focuses on slow twitch muscle fibers. In weeks 5 – 8 the program focuses on fast twitch muscle fibers. The slow twitch muscles provide us endurance and the fast twitch provide us power.

During weeks 1- 4 I am to use LOW resistance and HIGH resistance in weeks 5 – 8. What does this mean?

In weeks 1 – 4 you will perform 30 – 35 reps of each exercise. You will want to use enough weight or resistance so that at the 27th or 30th rep your muscle starts to get tired. If you get tired sooner, well, you are using too much weight. If after 35 reps you are not tired, you need more weight.

In weeks 5 – 8 you will perform 10 – 12 reps of each exercise. You will want to use enough weight or resistance so that at the 8th or 10th rep your muscle starts to get tired. If you get tired sooner, well, you are using too much weight. If after 12 reps you are not tired, you need more weight.

When I workout what should I make sure I do to have good form?

Make sure your feet are pointed forward. That you stand up nice and tall. Engage your core by pulling the belly button in. Don’t arch or hyper-extend your back. Don’t let your neck fall forward.

To protect your knees, when you are sitting make sure your feet are in front of your knees. Also, don’t rest your arms on feet on your knees.

I have a question on how to do a particular exercise?

The fitness videos show me giving a personal training session and step by step details on how to do each exercise correctly. If you have more questions, you can email us at any time at support@begolffit.com. We are here to help.

What will I gain from the Golf Fit Assessment product?

This product will allow you to quickly better understand your body and your muscle imbalances so that you can quickly address your unique needs. A detailed fitness report will outline in an easy to read format what exercises you need focus on to quickly improve your body, your swing plane, and your golf game.

What is the golf fit assessment product?

The golf fit Assessment product includes a sophisticated software application that presents a set of simple and easy to questions to quickly assess your muscle imbalances and what exercises you should perform to rid your body of these imbalances.

What are muscle imbalances and how do they it affect my golf game?

Life in general, as well as the game of golf, creates imbalances in our body. For example, for most of us, the right side will be the strong side.

Attaining muscle balance means that your left arm is just as strong as your right arm. In golf, this is essential, since you are supposed to control and deliver about 80% of your power with the non-dominant side of your body.

This skill is difficult but it is even harder if your dominant side is twice as strong as the non-dominant side. Fitness experts like to compare muscle imbalance to a car with improper alignment. The car looks fine but over time, the imbalance leads to uneven tire wear thus, affecting the overall ride of the vehicle.

If you are playing golf and practicing at the range you will developing muscle imbalances. If you don’t do something to counteract those imbalances, you will not be golfing at your optimal level and you may be prone to injury.

What are the system requirements for the software application?

The software will work with any internet browser.

EXERCISE EQUIPMENT FAQ

What equipment comes in the bundle?

The bundle includes everything you need to perform these exercises.

Professional Grade Foam Roller

Pair of Balance Pods

A 4lb and a 8lb Medicine Ball

Balance Disk

Heavy duty Exercise Ball built to support 600lbs

2 Resistance Bands with cushioned handles. One with light resistance and one with heavy.

2 Resistance bands. One with light and one with medium resistance

2 Resistance bands loops: One with medium and one with Super Heavy resistance

What size exercise ball do I need and what is an exercise ball?

The size of the exercise ball needed depends on your height. We suggest your ball size base on the following height chart:

45cm: 4’7″ – 5′

55cm: 5’1″ – 5’6″

65cm: 5’7″ – 6’1″

75cm: 6’2″ – 6’8″

How big should I blow my exercise ball?

Ideally you want your hips to be 0 – 2 inches higher than your knees when you sit on the ball.

Why does the fitness equipment bundle come with different size medicine balls and different strength resistance bands and tubing?

You will require a variety of resistance equipment. The exercises progress from week one to week eight, so the weight and resistance that you need will vary as well.

For example, in week one you will be using the lower resistance bands and doing more repetitions of each exercise. In week eight, you will be using a higher resistance band and doing less repetitions of each exercise.

The medicine balls are labeled with their weight; 4lbs and 8lbs. The resistance bands are labeled light, medium, heavy and extra heavy resistance.

What is a foam roller?

The best way to eliminate and prevent muscle knots is the foam roller.

The foam roller is a firm foam log that is six inches in diameter. Use the roller against the muscle knots with your own body weight to generate the direct pressure. Stretching is very beneficial and cannot be neglected. But in the case of muscle knots, stretching alone is not enough. When stretching a muscle with knots, you are only stretching the healthy muscle tissue. The knot remains a knot, laughing in the face of the stretch.

What type of foam roller does the bundle include?

Unlike most dealers, we include a closed-cell, heat molded foam technology foam roller. This roller is built for professional use and can withstand the heaviest of usage.

The round roller is 36” long by 6” in diameter. To clean, use a mild soap and water mixture or Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol. DO NOT use bleach solutions, oils or other chemicals as they can cause softening, discoloration and distortion or shape.

Both my husband and I are purchasing the golf fitness program. Do we need to order 2 equipment bundles?

No, you will be able to share the equipment. However, the bundle comes with only one exercise fitness ball. I suggest you purchase a size that will fit one of you and purchase a second exercise ball for the other at a local sports store.

How is the product shipped and how long will it take the product to get here?

The fitness equipment will be shipped via Fed Ex. Depending on where you live, you should receive the equipment in less than 5 business days. The equipment will come in 2 – 3 separate boxes.

What if my products are damaged during shipping?

If such an unfortunate event should occur, please contact us immediately at support@FitnessGolf.org.

Please provide the following information: First and Last name, Order #, Your Address, what item was damaged, any details about that damage, and any details about the packaging it arrived in. We will provide you with a return label so that you return the damaged product and we can quickly send you a replacement.

GOLF FITNESS FAQ

What improvements can I expect in my golf game?

Every player is different so results will vary, however, research studies have found that the average player can achieve the following:

Increased distance as much as 40 yards

Improved accuracy on approach shots (with higher lofted clubs)

Club head speed increase by 10 Mph

Better concentration while playing

Less back pain

Higher overall level of play

More energy

More consistency in play

What is the difference between Be Golf Fit and the workout that I do now?

A golf-specific program will help condition your body for the physical demands of the game. Many people I know lift weights to improve their game but they do not address flexibility. Lifting weights only can actually decrease flexibility and hurt a player’s swing and ultimately their game. Worse, training improperly can increase the risk of injury.

Be Golf Fit addresses strength, flexibility, cardio, power, endurance, and balance. A Workout that does not address all these physical elements will not help you achieve the results you desire

Who can do the Golf Fitness program?

A golfer at any level will see improvements to his game. We have had all levels benefit from the program. From first time golfers to professionals touring and every level in between. The program can also be enjoyed by young and old. We have had kids as young as 11 and adults as old as 90 participate in the program.

How does my body affect my golf game?

For players at every level, the golf swing is one of most difficult skills to execute consistently because it requires a high degree of spatial awareness for the ever-changing conditions of play. A round of golf requires strength, flexibility, power, and balance. Remember, it is your body swinging those new clubs and the body dictates your golfing ability and the outcome of your game.

How often do I need to do the Be Golf Fit workout?

The workout takes about 50 minutes. We recommend that you perform the workouts 2 times a week during your playing season and 3 – 4 times a week during your off season.

Do I need special equipment to perform the Be Golf Fit workout?

To perform the Be Golf Fit Workout all you need is resistance tubing, resistance bands, a medicine ball, a foam roller, an instability pad, and instability pods. This equipment can be purchased at your local sports retail store or you can purchase it online at our website.

We have arranged special group pricing that will save you time and money versus what you would have to spend if you had to purchase this products individually. We did this so that you could save money and enjoy the convenience of having it delivered to your door.

Can I do this workout in my home gym or at my health club?

Yes, you can. The workout handouts were designed to take to your workout facility so that you could easily remember and perform the Be Golf Fit fitness program.

I understand the product comes with a video series that I can view online. How many times can I view this video?

This video is available for you to view 24/7 as often as you like. In addition, you will soon be able to purchase a DVD version of the product.

What do I get with the 8-week Be Golf Fit Program?:

The 8-week program includes a video series, instructional handouts, weekly online coaching and 24/7 support.

The DVD series contains clips from several of my personal training sessions. Thru these videos you will better understand how to perform each exercise correctly. In addition, you will understand any changes that are made to the exercises week to week.

To complement the videos we have put together an instructional document that includes an overview of the workout for each week. Each handout includes a picture of the starting and ending position of each exercise. This handout is perfect to take with you to the gym or country club

Our weekly coaching is designed to motivate you to keep with it and to further educate you on the Be Golf Fit program. Twice a week we will send you motivational messages and information on what results you should expect.

GENERAL FAQ

1. What are the Physical Requirements of Golf and why?

Golf requires strength, flexibility, cardio, power, endurance, and balance. Here are a few ways these requirements effect your game:

Strength: Your core controls your body movements and is critical for maintaining a proper posture and swing plane. Also, a strong core will help protect your back and reduce pack pain. The rotator cuff is an important muscle in producing power. Strengthening this muscle will help reduce injury as well. And don’t forget good grip strength helps in those off center shots.

Flexibility: Flexible shoulders, back and hips can lengthen your golf swing to gain distance. Flexibility will also help with a smooth swing rotation and coil instead of that ugly tilt.. Lastly, tight hip flexors are common and can affect upper body rotation and lower back pain.

Power: Power comes from the lower body. That power must be transferred through a stable core to the upper body. Weight shift is another critical element in producing power.

Balance: Postural balance is necessary during weight transfer. The average professional golfer can balance on 1 foot for an average of 25 seconds, while the average amateur can balance for only 5 seconds.

Muscle Balance: Common imbalances in the muscles such as the right side being significantly stronger that the left-side, are often the cause of injury or soreness.

Endurance: Endurance will help to maintain focus throughout a round. When our muscles get tired we begin to compensate our movements using the wrong muscles to produce movement. And that is not good for your golf swing plane.

2. Do you provide golf lessons?

We do not provide golf lessons. We condition your body for the golf swing. Golf lessons will help you develop your golf skills. We will help you hit the ball harder, with more consistency and play with less injury.

3. I did not receive the Digital Videos (the digital version of the DVDs).

Our digital content is held on our private member’s area. Login with your email address and the password you selected the first time you logged in.

Member’s Area

4. What if I want the actual DVD’s sent to me (the physical product)?

We are in the process of developing the DVD’s now, and will announce when they are available.

Arleen Cauchi, NASM CPT (National Academy Sports Medicine, Certified Personal Trainer)

Founder of Boomer Fitness and Creator of Be Golf Fit

Arleen began her love of sports at the age of 9 when she began playing golf.

She learned the game of golf from the legendary Harold “Jug” McSpaden. Jug McSpaden and Byron Nelson were referred to as the “Gold Dust Twins” during their heyday of legendary golf duels in the 1940′s.

In 1945, when Nelson set the record for 11 wins in a row and 18 for the entire season, Jug set the record for second place finishes with 13. Were it not for Byron Nelson, Jug McSpaden would be one of the most well known golfers in the world.

While Arleen was learning her swing from Jug, his wife Betsy taught her the rules of the game. Arleen played golf throughout her school years and competed in the Junior PGA.

Arleen acquired her business acumen during her 20-year career in high-tech. During these years she launched over 25 products.

Arleen became passionate about sports conditioning as a track coach. She began to see the lack of knowledge with so many athletes concerning the connection between proper conditioning and actual performance. She also took notice that her father, who was a runner and avid athlete, was seeing his golf game suffer in spite of his good conditioning.

It was then she decided to do something about it and Boomer Fitness was born.

With her extensive training in sports conditioning, personal training, flexibility training, and pilates she developed specialized training for the active aging market, but quickly realized her methods and her clients successful results crossed all age barriers.

Clients from ages 11-90 have used her programs and have achieved incredible results with her revolutionary style of sports specific and joint friendly fitness training.

Using her expertise as a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Arleen enlisted the aid of the following experts in designing a scientific approach to sports specific fitness training in order to avoid injury as well as condition the specific muscles and muscle groups used in each athletic endeavor.

Joining Arleen in her effort to revolutionize fitness training were:

Golf Fitness And The Importance
Of Spine And Joint Friendly Exercises

Okay,I hope you now understand the importance of a golf-specific fitness program to improve your golf game. But what if the last time you tried a workout program your back started killing you? Or you injured yourself and could not play golf for 3 weeks! Or what if you can’t kneel because you have a bad knee?

Injury prevention is very, very important. And that includes in the gym as well.

This is just one of the reasons that our Be Golf Fit golf fitness program with our spine and joint friendly exercises is so vital to the health of your golf game.

What does spine and joint friendly really mean?

Well, it is a term created to describe a workout that includes exercises that are gentle on the spine and the joints while building the muscles that support the spine in order to prevent injury, provide more flexibility and improve your golf game – all at the same time.

Many people suffer injuries in the gym that prevent them from doing what they intended in the first place.

How ironic! Imagine, you go to the gym in order to get in shape to be able to do something you love, and end up injured and not being able to participate because you hurt yourself working out. Bummer…

By leveraging the expertise and advice of several physical therapists we created a golf fitness program that avoids exercises that put stress on the back or neck, or ones that are known to cause joint pain, or exercises that can be hard to perform correctly.

Back Pain Alert

It is critical that you do not ignore pain. If you feel sharp pain or increased pain, your body is talking to you, trying to tell you something. Look for an alternative exercise that will work the appropriate muscle pain free. There is almost always another exercise available. I always recommend clients seek the advice of their doctor or physical therapist if they have a known condition that could be aggravated by exercise.

Golf and Your Spine

One of the key components of your golf swing is your spine and the spine angle at address. Your entire golf swing rotates around your spine, if it is tight, out of alignment or sore, it only makes sense that your golf game is going to be impacted dramatically – either in higher scores or in not being able to play at all.

Want to enjoy golf for a lifetime? Then you must keep your spine injury and pain free.

Your spine is an intricate and impressive column of vertebrae, intervertebral discs, nerves, and the spinal cord. The spine, or backbone, is made of 33 individual bony vertebrae. This spinal column provides the main support for your entire body, allowing you to stand upright, bend, and twist, while protecting the spinal cord from injury. A healthy spine provides strength, is flexible, and allows movement in several planes.

The spine is a column of small bones called vertebrae that support the entire upper body. The column is grouped into sections, listed here from top to bottom:

* 7 cervical vertebrae that support the neck
* 12 thoracic vertebrae that connect to the rib cage
* 5 lumbar vertebrae that make up the lower back
* the sacrum, a shield-shaped bony structure that connects with the pelvis
* the coccyx, or “tail bone”, consisting of four, tiny partially-fused vertebrae

Each of the 24 moveable vertebrae in your spine are separated and cushioned by an intervertebral disc. This keeps the vertebrae from rubbing together. Because the lumbar area of the spine supports most of the body’s weight and stress, it is a common location for back pain.

The two main muscle groups that affect the spine are extensors and flexors. The extensor muscles enable us to stand up and lift objects. The extensors are attached to the back of the spine. The flexor muscles are in the front and include the abdominal muscles. These muscles enable us to flex, or bend forward, and are important in lifting and controlling the arch in the lower back.

These back muscles stabilize your spine. Something as common as poor muscle tone or a large belly can pull your entire body out of alignment. Misalignment puts incredible strain on the spine and obviously, on your ability to play golf.

Back pain affects 60-80% of American adults at some time during their lives, and it is estimated that up to 50% have back pain within any given year.

Yikes!

Costs for low back pain and disability exceed an estimated $55 billion annually.

In our comfortable lifestyle, we rarely sit but slouch into comfortable positions on deeply cushioned sofas or our favorite chair. The common element in all these is that they place our spine in a concave curve that eventually weakens the spine.

It turns out that lack of regular exercise is one of the most common causes of back pain. Research has proven this. In one study, only 47% of persons suffering from low-back pain exercised regularly, whereas 86% of people without back pain exercised regularly (Cox JM, et al. 1987). A study from Denmark revealed that middle-age people who exercise for at least 3 hrs per week have a reduced risk of low-back pain (Harreby M, et al. 1997).

In a small Swedish study, patients who had had low back pain for 6 weeks or longer were treated with strength training of the abdominal and lumbar areas, or with manual therapy (stretching, traction). Assessments at 3 months and 12 months showed that the patients who participated in strength training improved more than the manual therapy group. In addition, the strength training group required less treatment for recurrent back pain than the manual therapy group (Rassmussen-Barr E, et al. 2003).

A few things to remember when exercising. Keep your spine in good alignment. Do not hyperextend or curl your back. Do not slouch or hang your head or shoulders forward. Keep your feet and knees pointed forward and engage your core by pulling the belly button in towards the spine. I highly recommend you exercise in front of a mirror. Often times you are positioned differently than you feel.

Try these spine and joint friendly exercises for yourself:

Dumbbell Row: This is an exercise that I see many guys do at the gym. They typically set themselves up in a squat position and pull the barbell up. To make it spine and joint friendly. use a single dumbbell and exercise each side separately. For example, if you are going to exercise your left side, first place your right hand and right knee on a bench (your left foot is on the ground). Now, your spine is supported like a table with 3 legs.

Chest Press: Most folks will lie back on the bench with their feet on the floor. One foot on each side. This tends to hyperextend the back. Instead you want to put one foot up on the bench so that the spine can lay flat on the bench.

Avoid This Exercise:

Dead Lifts: If you are looking for the single exercise with the highest likelihood of producing a back injury, then this is it. Don’t do it!

Want to participate in a golf fitness program specifically designed to strengthen your spine without injury or pain?

Get Be Golf Fit, designed so you can play better golf, more golf, and play golf pain free.

Golf Fitness For Avoiding Golf Injuries

Out for the season due to injury! The worst thing a professional golfer or YOU, the amateur can hear.

We see it every year. Tiger’s knee, Anthony Kim’s thumb and famous injuries that can be career changers. How about Couple’s back, or Nicklaus’ hip?

That is why your golf fitness program should include injury prevention exercises.

Even professional golfers struggle with staying injury free, and they have the advantage of using teams of professional trainers that follow the tour around in portable gyms and therapy centers for their constant use.

On average, professional players lose five weeks of playing time due to injury as a result of overuse in spite of the high tech training and professional therapists available to them 24-7.

The rest of us amateurs lose time on the course due to lack of fitness and poor technique.

The most common injuries are back, wrist, shoulder, elbow and knee. But before we examine each of these injuries, let’s first talk about muscle imbalances.

Life in general, as well as the game of golf, creates imbalances in our body.

For example, for most of us, the right side will be the stronger side. Attaining muscle balance means that you left arm is just as strong as your right arm. In golf, this is essential, since your non-dominant side of your body will deliver about 80% of the power to your swing.

Fitness experts like to compare muscle imbalance to a car with improper alignment. The car looks fine but over time the imbalance leads to uneven tire wear. Thus, the overall ride and handling of the car becomes inferior.

If you hit 150 golf balls a week at the driving range in an effort to improve your game you are going to start developing muscle imbalances. If you don’t do something to counteract those imbalances, you will not be aligned at your optimal level and you may be prone to injury. Remember, every action has a reaction.

Make sure maintaining muscle balance is part of your injury prevention.

Back Injuries

Today, the modern golf swing leverages a big shoulder turn with less hip turn. The tightly coiled body generates power and club head acceleration but puts an expensive toll on the back. In addition, even the golf stance and putting stance puts strain on your back. Does your back bother you on the putting green? Do you notice a tightening of the lower back or even pain? This is a clue to you that your back needs some attention.

To prevent injury you should build a strong set of core muscles while you increase flexibility in the hamstrings and the glutes. Your core muscles include all your muscles in your trunk. I have found that men tend to have less core strength, especially in the glutes, than women. If your hamstrings and glute muscles are tight or have knots in them they will pull on the lower back. This muscle fatigue leads to what is referred to as uncoordinated muscle firing and injuries are a common result.

Make sure when you perform exercises or play golf you do not arch or hyperextend the back. This puts undo stress on the back.

And don’t forget that a strong core will help you maintain that steady spine angle swing after swing after swing for a consistent swing and a more consistent game.

Wrist Injuries

The left wrist/hand is one of the leading causes of injuries among golfers. Golfers who lack grip and forearm strength will be prone to injuries to their hand, wrist and elbow. Good golf technique requires that the movement is different in the left than the right wrist. Overuse or poor wrist control during the swing can cause excessive movement leading to injury.

To prevent injury you should build strong and flexible forearm muscles.

Elbow Injury

When the forearm is strained from overuse you can develop Golfer’s Elbow. Golfers Elbow is less common than Tennis Elbow and characteristically occurs with wrist flexor activity and pronation in the right elbow of a right-handed golf swing by throwing the club head down at the ball with the right arm rather than pulling the club through with the left arm and trunk.

Strengthen and increase flexibility in wrist. Consider switching to graphite shafts and low compression balls to decrease elbow strain at impact

Shoulder Injuries

Shoulder injuries are less common in golf than in overhead sports but overuse injuries are still frequently seen in the lead arm. The rotator cuff is often the cause of shoulder pain. This little muscle plays a major role in the golf swing.

Repeated stress to a degenerated tendon may lead to fibre failure, producing symptoms of bursitis or tendinitis. In cases of significant failure, the golfer will feel weakness even from something as simple as elevating the shoulder.

Younger competitive golfers may describe pain and a sense of instability during their golf swing. Some players even complain of an audible clunk when the left lead arm is fully adducted and internally rotated at the top of the backswing or at the initiation of the forward swing.

To avoid this injury golfers should strengthen the rotator cuff and increase shoulder flexibility. The goal of treatment is to reduce inflammation and strengthen the uninjured muscles around the shoulder to compensate for the torn muscles.

Knee Pain

Knee pain and knee injuries are another common injury for golfers. Some golfers will complain of soreness, clicking and swelling of the knee aggravated by twisting, squatting and walking. Again, the best way to avoid these injuries to build and strengthen the muscles that support the knee with knee exercises. Proper golf fitness is critically important in protecting your knees from injury and knee pain. I don’t have to tell you how important your knees are in the game of golf.

Weak or fatigued muscles cannot adequately support the knee joint or absorb shock before it gets to the knee and the extra stress placed upon the knee can cause injury to the structures of the knee.

Strengthening exercises can make the muscles tight, so follow strength exercises with stretching exercises.

Stretching the muscles that support the knee with knee exercises is also important in preventing injury. Flexible muscles are not as easily injured as tight muscles. Tightness of muscles connected to the knee can also pull the knee out of alignment.

To avoid knee pain or injury you want to strengthen and stretch the muscle that support the joint. The quad, the hamstring, the IT band. In some cases, the quadriceps is significantly stronger than the hamstrings. (The quadriceps should only be about 25% stronger than the hamstrings). This can cause weakness of the knee. If this is the case, concentrating on strengthening exercises for the hamstrings, and stretching exercises for the quadriceps are very helpful.

Golf Fitness For More Focused
And Frequent Play

Fatigue and 3 cold beers is why most players lose concentration.

Considering that a round of golf takes at least 4 hours to play or 6 if you get a weekend tee time (love those), it’s easy to see how fatigue and sharing 3 tall cool ones with your buddies might affect your focus.

Ya think?

A 10 handicap golfer will take about 50 hard swings and another 50 – 70 practice swings per round with a club that weights slightly less that a baseball bat. This doesn’t include all the walking or other energy sucking activities you may endure in a round. Like pretending you are in the hammer toss at the Olympics when you hurl your club into the golf course wilderness after a bad shot, or standing on the tee cursing like a sailor at the top of your lungs at the unseen and cruel golf Gods…and yes, screaming like a Banshee does consume energy.

A workout regimen that increases aerobic capacity will increase your endurance and will allow you to maintain focus throughout your entire 18 hole day. It will also allow you to play 3 or 4 days in a row…and all golfers want that, right!

Let me ask you some personal questions.

Have you found yourself selecting the wrong club on the 15th due to lack of focus?

Do you habitually “fade away” on the last few holes and just force yourself to finish?

Have you lost your competitive edge with your bad, back nine shot decisions?

It may well be you have poor cardiovascular endurance.

Every golfer needs some form of cardiovascular conditioning in order to maintain energy and keep their focus throughout the round.

With a little exercise, you can enjoy your full game of golf without having your game fall apart on the last few holes. Seriously, I see this happen all the time and I am sure you do too! How many times have you seen guys that just couldn’t finish strong?

They just need to bogey the last 3 holes to break 90 and they shoot 95 instead – happens all the time – right?

Think focus and conditioning may have a part in that?

Well, you’re right!

Mounting research shows that exercise is good for the brain.

While much of the research on the effects of exercise on the mind has focused on countering dementia in seniors, recent studies show that kids and adults can get a brain boost as well.

Better cardiovascular fitness can increase cognitive ability by 10 to 20 percent – way more than enough to notice a difference in concentration, focus, stress management and mood.

More than enough to make a difference on that important putt, that important par 3 or the back nine break downs. More than enough to break 90, or 80 – or whatever your dream score may be.

I have had many clients begin a program because they now have time to play golf 3 to 4 days a week, but their bodies are to stiff and sore and achy to play more than 1 day a week much less 2 days in a row.

Current scientific research points toward muscle damage as the culprit of muscle soreness. When you play a round of golf, you cause “microtrauma” to the muscle fibers — localized damage to the muscle fiber membranes and contractile elements.

Over the next 24 hours, the damaged muscle becomes swollen and sore. Chemical irritants are released from the damaged muscles and can irritate pain receptors. In addition to the injured fibers, there is increased blood flow from increased activity to the muscle, causing a swelling of the muscle tissues, which causes enough pressure to stimulate pain receptors. Instead of having free-moving muscle fibers the next morning, you have fibers that are fatigued, have microscopic tears and are swollen.

The cure for muscle soreness is relatively simple: If you gradually increase the strength and endurance of your muscles and you warm up properly before you play golf, you will not get as sore – make sense?

Remember that golfing uses muscles that are not used regularly in your daily life. It all comes down to something called specificity of training; where your muscles, tendons and ligaments adapt to a particular sport, activity or movement pattern over a period of time.

In addition, as we grow older, our muscles and surrounding tissues also have less elasticity, so we tend to feel soreness and tightness more quickly than we did in high school. A golfer who stays in shape — even golfers in their 50s and 60s — should be able to play a several rounds of golf a week with no or minimal muscular soreness.

How about you?

Do you want to play more golf and play it with more focus?

Do you finally want to break your dream score? Do you want to experience the energy that allows you to finish the round strong, even if you do toss 3 cold ones with your buds?

With Be Golf Fit, now you can! Get the golf fitness program everyone is talking about. The golf fitness program scientifically designed so you can play a more enjoyable round, play more often without pain or soreness AND lower your score.

With Golf Fitness
You Can Build Wrists Of Steel

The action of your wrists and hands has the greatest effect on how your golf ball flies and where it goes. The hands are the golfer’s ultimate tool for feel and action of the club. The club head face or the wrists dictate the direction the ball will fly. In the golf swing the wrist must produce as much range of motion at a very high rate of speed as any athletic movement. Tell that to the mockers of golf athleticism.

This is also why it is crucial you participate in a golf fitness program that is focused on building a total player with a routine that addresses every muscle and muscle group in the golf swing.

Golf Is A Left Handed Game

Left wrist and forearm strength are critical to golf success. Many players let the left wrist break down through impact, being dominated by the right arm. This causes many problems in the golf swing including topping, loss of distance, and pulling shots to the left.

A loose grip is recommended by many but first, you must have the strength to hold the club loosely and still maintain control.

Without this hand and forearm strength more energy is spent gripping the club, or even worse, re-gripping the club when starting the downswing.

Additionally, the tighter you grip the club, the more tension you develop in your forearms and wrists. Tense muscles will restrict not only your wrist’s range of motion, but also the range of motion in your full swing. Does any of this ring familiar to you? Have you experienced this with your golf swing?

Developing good grip strength will also give you a competitive advantage when hitting though the sand or deep, heavy rough. Let the other guys in your group struggle with the bad lies while you blast the ball out cleanly.

Improving Your Short Game

Improving your short game can mean the difference between a good round and great round of golf. In fact 70% of the game is played inside the 150 yard marker.

Here are the secret benefits you gain with our golf fitness program.

First, by gaining power and increased distance in your shots you can begin to use your higher lofted clubs from greater distance for better accuracy. To manipulate the club head with accuracy, you need to strengthen the muscles that grip, flex, extend and rotate your hand and wrist.

Furthermore, the short game requires a great deal more finesse. Finesse in terms of finite control of those partial swings, which are the most difficult in golf. Finesse in terms of hitting out of the sand, or off the slope of the fringe. Finesse in keeping your wrists from breaking down while executing these delicate and difficult golf shots.

Increasing your motor control and your arm, wrist, and forearm’s ability to control the club and execute these finesse movements is what we seek with our Be Golf Fit program.

Would you like to have the ability and control to hit chips and pitches from the rough, control the bouncing of the club in heavy sand, and accelerate through the shot much easier?

With stronger forearms and wrists you will gain this all important control. This is especially important with female golfers who tend not to have enough strength in their forearms and wrists to truly control the club.

Any good golf fitness program should also include injury prevention. We want to keep you playing and having a good time round after round after round.

Injury Prevention

Guess what? Your second hidden benefit is injury prevention.

The left wrist/hand is one of the leading causes of injuries among golfers. Golfers who lack grip and forearm strength will be prone to injuries to their hand, wrist and elbow.

This extremely painful condition can also be caused by having your arms fixed in an awkward position, constant repetition or excessive force.

The stress is greatest during the downswing portion of the swing. Injuries usually result from overuse or from trauma suffered by hitting a fat shot. I actually had a friend break his wrist while I was playing with him doing exactly that. His swing came in to steep, he drove his iron straight into the ground, and snap, crackle, pop went the bones in his wrist. An easy way to help avoid these types of injuries is to begin strengthening the grip and forearm muscles.

I think one of the worst things a golfer can be told is sorry, put away the sticks, you’re done for the year. Come back in about 6 months and we’ll check those pins I had to put in your wrist.

Ugh!

Besides the wrist risk, there are also elbow injuries. Elbow injuries can also take longer to heal than other overuse injuries – from six to 12 weeks or more – because there are fewer muscles in that particular area to bring the blood’s healing cells to repair damaged tissues. Simple strengthening techniques can prevent injuries like this from occurring.

One of the best golf fitness strengthening exercises you can do is the Wrist Curl followed by my Wrist Flexor Stretch for forearm flexibility. Using these two exercises in tandem will give you the strength and flexibility required in your hands and arms to not only hit better golf shots but also to avoid a serious injury.

Now You can control your club, play the difficult and delicate shots around the green, put the ball closer to the hole with a higher lofted club and wrestle the club through the thickest rough without fear of injury with golf fitness from Be Golf Fit.

Golf Fitness For Picture Perfect Par Posture

Functional posture makes a world of difference in your swinging action and lets you impart far more force into your ball strike. You like to hit it hard don’t ya?

Golf, just like all other sports, requires sound basics that are simple, like good posture. And in golf, there is nothing more important than good posture. Posture is crucially involved in every swing you make and every aspect of your swing.

From a side view, good posture is seen as your head balanced over your shoulders as though an imaginary line runs from your ear through your shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. From the front, your shoulders and hips should be level, head straight, knees facing straight ahead and ankles straight.

Static posture is fundamental to maintaining a consistent address position and supports the motion of your swing. Your body is the pendulum in the swing plane. How you address the ball sets up the swing plane and how you will strike the ball. Over 18 holes you may spend approximately 20-25 minutes addressing the ball. If you have less than optimal posture and poor stabilizer function, your address position will progressively worsen throughout the round.

Hmmm, is your game falling apart on the back nine?

Feeling fatigued?

Shots going astray?

Coming out of your swing?

Check your posture!

Most postural conditions do not occur overnight. Modern living plays havoc on our posture. We spend long hours sitting at desks working on the computer or a relaxed posture in the car. And we haven’t talked about how much time you spend playing at being a couch potato.

And then there is stress! Let’s not ignore the effects of stress. Like a vise tightening your shoulders and neck until you feel they might snap off.

So is it any surprise two of the most common problem areas in posture are slouching shoulders and having the back in a slumped or curved position?

For every inch the head tilts forward, it puts another 10 pounds of strain on the neck and shoulders. The deep postural muscles contain a large proportion of slow twitch muscle fibres. These fibres are capable of contracting for long periods without tiring. Poor posture demands the support of the fast twitch muscle fibres which tire quickly creating muscle fatigue and pain. Over time, excessive use of the fast twitch fibres leads to wasting of the slow twitch fibres causing a reduction in joint stability and poor mechanics.

Eventually, after repeating these actions day after day, the actions will override your natural mechanisms. The more you move in a poor way, the easier it beomes and the better you get at moving in an incorrect manner.

Simple fact! Repetition builds bad habits in posture as in anything else.

Soon the poor way feels right and the right posture seems wrong!

So as an unannounced and added bonus we have something for you.

By letting us fix your posture you will not only improve your golf game, but you will also stand tall off the course.

Poor posture can restrict body rotation. This can cause that dreaded tilt – instead of the turn of the shoulders and hips. This in turn can cause the even more dreaded reverse pivot – which is right up there with shank.

The Good News Is You Can Correct Posture

Yes, now you can correct posture!

How?

By strengthening the trapezium and the rhomboid muscles which are the muscles that support the neck and head. By stretching your pec muscles to let those shoulder muscles roll back you’ll be able to turn – instead of tilt!

You will also need to build your core and trunk strength to take the pressure off your lower back.

Now you can improve and maintain good posture throughout your golf swing, increase your swing power and hit the ball farther with Be Golf Fit, the revolutionary golf fitness course designed to help you put the ball in the hole in fewer strokes.

Ready for a better game in just 8 short weeks? Ready to change your game forever?

With Golf Fitness You Can
Power The Ball With Plyometrics

Plyometric training started in the Eastern European countries back in the 1970s. Remember when these countries dominated the track and field events in the Olympics? The U.S. quickly plyometric training for their athletes. At first it was used primarily for track & Field athletes, but over time this training has been adopted for almost all sports.

Simply put, Plyometric training is about programming your body to convert strength into speed in the shortest amount of time possible. When you hear TV announcers talking about power in golf, they are really talking about speed. It is generating club head speed that drives the ball further, not necessarily the strength of the person swinging the club. I’m sure you’ve been to the driving range and seen the skinny kid out driving the muscular guy many times. It is because the skinny kid is generating more speed, not because he is stronger than the muscular guy.

This is why Plyometric training is so important to your overall golf fitness program.

Using Plyometric golf fitness training, you can develop the explosiveness needed to drive your ball as much as 40 yards further without necessarily gaining any strength. Since power is determined by how long it takes for strength to be converted to speed, training your muscles to convert strength to speed in a very short time allows for athletic movements beyond what raw strength will allow.

Plyometric golf fitness movements, in which a muscle is loaded and then contracted in rapid sequence, use the strength and elasticity of your muscles to allow you to hit the ball harder for more distance. Plyometrics in your golf fitness training is used to increase the speed or force of your muscular contractions providing you the explosiveness you need to increase the length of your drives with more efficiency and less effort.

A good analogy of a plyometric exercise is a rubber band. When you pull back or stretch a rubber band there exists the potential for a quick and powerful return to it’s original length. Your muscles work the same way. By training your muscles to make this “rebound” movement as quickly as possible the speed and power generated translates into club head speed and longer drives.

By utilizing medicine balls and a variety of other exercise aids, Be Golf Fit has been scientifically designed to adapt Plyometric training specifically to golf to build the speed you need for more power. Now you can drive the ball longer and play with more confidence tee to green.

One of the more rewarding moments in golf is when you hit the perfect long drive off the first tee for your buddies and everyone one behind you to see and admire. There are several elements that make that beautiful drive possible. One of them is Power. That is why plyometric training should be a part of your golf fitness training.

Do you want to launch drives that leave your foursome with their mouths hanging open? Want power in your golf game?

Get Be Golf Fit, the revolutionary golf fitness program designed to put your ball in the hole with fewer strokes.

Is Your Golf Fitness Workout
Actually Hurting Your Golf Game?

What?

Every golf magazine and every blathering golf guru talks about golf fitness and how it can help improve your golf game.

So it only stands to reason that getting any type of exercise should help your game – right?

The answer is a resounding NO that sounds as ugly as the last shank you hit.

How you workout and what muscles you workout can make a big difference in your swing and in your score.

Everyday new discoveries are being made associating improved health benefits and working out.

So, if you are going to workout, why not work out in a scientific manner to improve your golf game, not damage it. Listen, if you haven’t found the right motivation to get you off your couch and into a regular golf fitness exercise routine, there is probably no better motivator than this.

Did you know a proven golf fitness program can add up to 40 yards to your drives, reduce your nagging back pain and keep your scorecard the lowest among your golfing buddies? You would like to take their money wouldn’t you, or win the next scrambler or club tournament?

While you may love playing golf, unfortunately, playing golf is not the best means for getting your body in better shape. Here’s why.

Physical Demands of Golf

Golf is a physically demanding sport, in spite of what the naysayers say. Remember, it is your body swinging those new clubs and it is your body that dictates your golfing ability and the outcome of your game. Muscular imbalances, lack of strength, or limited flexibility will create restrictions in your golf swing and therefore not only affect performance but could cause soreness at the least or severe injury at the worst.

For players at every level, the golf swing is one of the most difficult skills to execute consistently over the ever-changing conditions of play. A typical round of golf includes lots of demands. In a single round of golf you can walk as much as 8,000 yards. If you are using a cart you will still walk 4,000 yards. Depending on the day you can have sun, heat and humidity melting you faster than an ice cream cone in the Sahara desert. Conversely it may be cold, rainy or be a day when the wind is blowing hard enough to pick up a cow. And if it can pick up a cow I don’t even want to think how that might affect the flight of your golf ball – know how to hit it low?

You will be swinging several different golf clubs with varying weights and lengths. You will be hitting from hillsides with your toes lower than your heels or with your heels lower than your toes. Then you may be faced with a shot from a slope with one leg higher than the other. You will be hitting the ball from lousy lies; long, wet, club wrenching grass, thin lies in short grass or even a bare fairway. And of course, there is everybody’s favorite, the modern day sand trap. Bigger than Waikiki beach, I’ve seen players that could toss down two drinks with umbrellas in them in less time than it took them to extricate themselves from some of these modern day monsters.

This doesn’t even account for the “behind the tree lie”, the “oops, I hit it in the other fairway and have to go over the trees lie” and of course everyone’s favorite, the “water hazard lie”.

With all of these obstacles, it’s easy to see how a a golf fitness program could help improve your game by allowing you to swing your club consistently from beginning to end while maintaining your balance, form and rhythm.

Many golf fitness workouts focus on just one particular physical requirement of the golf game but not others.

For example, some golf fitness programs focus on strength while ignoring flexibility. Others focus on flexibility while ignoring strength. Others include a few special “golf” exercises. Some focus on building cardio and endurance but nothing more.

I’m sure you have seen many golf fitness programs focused on nothing but hitting a longer drive. Let me ask you, how many times do you hit your driver in a round? Is it fewer than you putt and fewer than your approach shots? Of course it is!

In other words, do you want to be a complete golfer or just the star on your local driving range?

This is why comprehensive golf fitness is so important. Let me share a typical problem with most golf fitness programs.

What if your workout focuses on strength but not flexibility? Most of us begin to loose flexibility at age 25. Without a proper stretching regimen, the increase in muscle strength will actually decrease flexibility resulting in an even shorter golf swing. As your muscles get stronger they get shorter, did you know that? Shorter muscles actually shorten your swing and produce a mathematical result you will not be happy with.

Don’t believe me? Here’s the math:

[( Muscle + No Stretch) X Shorter Swing + (Slower Club Head Speed)] = Lot’s Of Rounds At The 19th Hole – ON YOU!

Is this what you want?

I didn’t think so.

This is just one of many reasons you want a comprehensive golf fitness program. It is imperative you build flexibility while you build strength so your muscle will retain it’s optimal elongated length producing a long golf swing that not only adds distance, but prevents injury.

Do yourself a favor and start playing winning golf with our scientifically designed golf fitness program that is unlike any other on the market.

A typical round of golf will have you hitting the ball from all sorts of angles and unstable footing. The ability to maintain your balance and center of gravity during the movement of the swing is essential.

Here’s a juicy golf tidbit for you. The average golfer can balance on 1 foot for only 7 seconds while the average professional golfer can balance on 1 foot for 25 seconds. Thus it only stands to reason exercises that focus on balance and core strength will greatly improve your balance and power.

Balance or Proprioception is an automatic sensitivity mechanism in the body that sends messages through the central nervous system. The central nervous system then relays information to rest of the body about how to react and with what amount of tension. Proprioception is unconscious initially, but can be enhanced with training. As an example, think about the female gymnastic athletes that balance and do back flips on that 4 inch wide piece of wood called the balance beam. Do you think they were born with that kind of balance? Of course not, it evolves from training. So it’s not surprising that balance can be learned, challenged, and improved with proprioceptive feedback.

Think about the golf swing and the constant motion. And yet with the constant motion, it is critical to keep your head still and your eye on the golf ball. As all your body parts are moving it is imperative you keep your body in balance while maintaining your spine angle and that oh-so-sweet swing plane.

Your body is the pendulum in the swing plane and if you are out of balance, then your pendulum is swinging back and forth in smaller increments while you’re trying to swing a golf club. Even if the body gets balance, the club will not be in the position it started, so it’s anyone’s guess what will happen when the club gets back to the ball.

We can train our bodies to improve the proprioception within the muscles, just by creating balance challenges for ourselves. Balance training is a facet of golf fitness where you will notice rapid improvements. I get excited about balance training because my students achieve rapid improvements and that excites them, just as it will excite you.

Similar to strength training, golf fitness balance training should be progressive and cyclical. Start with the basics and systematically progress in difficulty. After 8 weeks cycle back to the basics and make sure you have been maintaining good form. Examine your improvements. Can you hold your balance longer? Is it taking less effort? Is it easier to balance on one foot versus the other?

Balance is crucial for playing your best golf. If you are out of balance when you set up to the ball, your body will start trying to re-balance itself as soon as you start your backswing. This throws off your golf swing by changing your distance to the ball as your body redirects your muscles away from the golf swing in order to maintain balance. This in turn causes mishits of all types and persuasions. Additionally, the slight deviations in terrain we encounter as golfers require slight adjustments of balance to avoid injury.

Specialized sensory receptors in the muscles, joints and connective tissues enable the body to process information from a variety of stimuli, and turn that information into action. The skin, palms of the hands, soles of the feet and other senses collaborate to communicate with the brain about muscle tension, weight shifts, load and range of motion. Your core muscles and hips keeps you in balance. Balance is extremely important for accuracy in golf. You must be able to maintain a stable and balanced body position even while swinging the club to maintain your target line and avoid mishits.

We all know golf is a game of degrees. A 2 degree mishit can translate into 20 yards off the target line 200 yards down the fairway.

By making golf fitness balance training a part of your golf conditioning program, you will be able to much more easily maintain a proper stance and balance throughout your entire golf swing without moving off the ball.

Golf Fitness Will Eliminate Your Back Pain

Ouch! Is back pain limiting your golf swing?

There is no doubt back pain can come between you and a good round of golf. Even the most minor back pain can be enough of a distraction to not only wreak havoc with a player’s swing, but make for a round of golf you will want to soon forget.

How about you? Are you experiencing back pain when you play or after a round? Do you experience a severe tightening of the back muscles during or after your round?

Here is what is happening to you.

Golf requires you to maintain a spine angle that compromises the back. One of the biggest things you could do to prevent back pain or to prevent injury from occurring in the first place, is to build strong core muscles. A strong core will help you maintain that position pain free. And just as importantly, a strong core will help you maintain that steady spine angle swing after swing after swing for a consistent swing and a more consistent game. Furthermore, a lack of core development can result in a predisposition for back injury.

It should now be very apparent to you that core training is critical for any golf fitness program.

Back pain is endemic: It affects 8 out of every 10 people at one point in their lives. Americans spent some $86 billion in 2005 on doctor’s visits, surgery, imaging, and drugs to treat back and neck pain—and costs continue to rise each year. One of the best ways to stay out of the doctor’s office for back pain is to build a strong core with a proper golf fitness conditioning program.

What Muscles Make Up The “Core”?

The core muscles are the muscles that support our trunk. This includes our stomach muscles (traverse Abdominas, external Obliques, Internal Obliques and Rectus Abdominals), our glutes, our hips, and our erector spinae (The muscles that lie in the groove to the side of your vertebral column). These muscle groups make up what is commonly referred to as the “core”, and it’s this entire group of muscles that are addressed in our golf fitness program and that you should be addressing in order to see the game improvement you are looking for.

Now the question becomes, what can I do to improve the condition of my core, and what exercises must be included in a golf fitness program to address those?

I can already hear your screams.

“I hate sit ups or crunches!”

Well, I am here to tell you “you don’t have to do a single crunch to build a stong core.!” In fact, if your core training consists solely of sit ups and crunches, you are not working the entire core. It is important to work all the stomach muscles and all the muscles that make up the core. To accomplish that at least 30% of your golf fitness workout should include core training. Fortunately, there are many great core exercises for you to enjoy and I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the results that can be achieved without the exercises you typically think of for core fitness.

Is back pain keeping you from enjoying a round a golf right now?

Sometimes rest is the answer, however, many people often immobilize the injured back for too long. This sustained immobilization causes reduced range of motion and reduced strength. So, unfortunately, when you go back out on the course, you now have less range of motion and strength, which is bad for your golf game and sets you up for another injury.

Benefiting From Core Conditioning With Your Golf Fitness Program

When a core is strong it can hold the spine in the correct position for the golf swing. This allows you to make a correct swing, properly balanced and executed.

When the core isn’t strong enough, the back muscles step in to help. This causes strain on the back muscles and back pain. This also causes inefficient body movements or an inefficient golf swing. These inefficient and unnatural moves not only create an inconsistent swing and an inconsistent golf shot, but again, increase the odds of a spinal injury or back pain.

Do you want to improve your game, be more consistent and play golf back pain free? If so, you need to strengthen your core, and the best and fastest way to accomplish this is with our Be Golf Fit Golf Fitness Program.
